Carers & Support
Are you an unpaid carer?
A carer is someone who provides care or support without being paid to do so for a family member, partner, friend or neighbour who could not manage as well without their help because of illness, disability, a physical or mental health condition, frailty or addiction.
This is different from someone who is employed as a care worker or professional carer.
You may not think of yourself as a carer, you might simply see yourself as a husband, wife, partner, parent, child, relative, friend or neighbour who helps someone you care about.
If you provide this kind of unpaid support, please let us know. Knowing that you are a carer can help us understand your circumstances and make sure this is recorded on your medical record.
Young carers
A young carer is a child or young person who helps to look after someone in their family who needs additional support.
Carers’ Resource provides dedicated support for young carers, including individual support, activities and opportunities to meet other young people with caring responsibilities.
