Hospital Letters

Following your hospital appointment, it can take up to two weeks for correspondence to be received by the practice, reviewed by a clinician, and any necessary actions completed.

To help improve efficiency and reduce processing times, we use Anima document processing technology to manage incoming hospital correspondence.

Hospital Prescriptions

As hospital letters may take up to two weeks to reach the practice and be reviewed, the hospital remains responsible for:

  • Providing sufficient medication until the information has been processed by your GP practice.
  • Arranging any urgent investigations, tests, or follow-up care.
  • Prescribing medicines that require specialist or hospital monitoring, unless a formal shared-care agreement is in place.

Please note that the GP practice cannot take responsibility for specialist medications or hospital-initiated treatment unless this has been specifically agreed with the hospital consultant.

Referrals to Other Specialties

If the hospital has advised that your GP needs to make a referral to another specialist service, please contact the surgery within three weeks of your hospital appointment to ensure the recommendation has been received and reviewed.

This allows us to confirm that any required referral has been actioned and helps prevent delays in your ongoing care.
