Mid and South Essex<\/strong>
\nSpecial Allocation Service (SAS)<\/strong>
\nImportant Information for Patients<\/strong><\/p>\n

This leaflet explains how the Mid and South Essex Special Allocation Service works and what you can expect when you are registered with us via Primary Care Support England (PCSE).<\/p>\n

Our priority is your safety, wellbeing, and access to appropriate healthcare, while also ensuring a safe environment for staff and other patients.<\/p>\n

\n

Registration via PCSE<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are registered with us through PCSE due to an immediate removal by your GP Surgery. You will be registered with us for a minimum of 12 months, and you will be subject to specific clinical and behavioural guidelines. These guidelines are in place to ensure safe care and consistent support.<\/p>\n

\n

O<\/em>ur Approach to Prescribing<\/strong><\/p>\n

We take a holistic and clinically led approach to prescribing. This means:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Medication is prescribed only when it is safe and appropriate<\/li>\n
  • Prescriptions are regularly reviewed<\/li>\n
  • Decisions are based on your health needs and current clinical guidance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    \n

    Controlled Medications<\/strong><\/p>\n

    If you are prescribed controlled drugs or medicines with a risk of dependence:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • We will review whether this medication is safe and suitable for long-term use<\/li>\n
    • Where appropriate, we may suggest alternative or less harmful treatments<\/li>\n
    • Any changes will be made following clinical assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n

      Overdose or Medication Safety Concerns<\/strong><\/p>\n

      If there is a report that you have taken an overdose of any medication:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Your medication will move to daily collection immediately<\/li>\n
      • This arrangement will remain in place for six months<\/li>\n
      • A review will then take place to decide the safest next prescribing plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        This is done to protect your health and safety.<\/p>\n

        Lost or Missing Medication<\/strong><\/p>\n

        If medication is lost or stolen:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • A replacement prescription will only be considered once a police crime reference number is provided<\/li>\n
        • Prescriptions will then move to daily collections<\/li>\n
        • This will be reviewed after six months, and a longer-term plan will be agreed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n

          Behaviour Standards \u2013 Zero Tolerance<\/strong><\/p>\n

          We are committed to providing a safe environment.<\/p>\n

          We\u00a0do not tolerate:<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • Threats or intimidation<\/li>\n
          • Aggressive behaviour<\/li>\n
          • Shouting<\/li>\n
          • Offensive or abusive language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Any such behaviour:<\/p>\n

              \n
            • Will be recorded<\/li>\n
            • May be reported to the police<\/li>\n
            • May result in restrictions on how you access services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              This follows\u00a0NHS Zero Tolerance guidance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \n

              Legal and Clinical Standards<\/strong><\/p>\n

              This service works in line with:<\/p>\n

                \n
              • NHS Zero Tolerance guidance<\/li>\n
              • The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971<\/li>\n
              • NHS England safe prescribing guidance<\/li>\n
              • Local safeguarding and clinical governance arrangements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                \n

                Patient Agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n

                Whilst registered with the Mid and South Essex Special Allocation Service, you are confirming that you:<\/p>\n

                  \n
                • Understand and accept these prescribing arrangements<\/li>\n
                • Agree to regular medication reviews<\/li>\n
                • Understand the consequences of medication loss, overdose, or safety concerns<\/li>\n
                • Agree to meet expected behaviour standards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Failure to follow this guidance may result in further safeguards being put in place.<\/p>\n
