Veteran\u2011friendly surgeries aim to remove that barrier by ensuring staff are trained, informed, and proactive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What This Means for You<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Proactive identification: We ask all patients if they have served and record this in their medical notes.<\/li>\n<li>Accurate veteran coding: We use the recommended SNOMED codes to ensure veterans can access the right support.<\/li>\n<li>Staff training: Our team receives training to understand the physical, mental, and social challenges veterans may face.<\/li>\n<li>Tailored referrals: We connect veterans with specialist NHS services and trusted charities such as the Royal British Legion and Combat Stress.<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated support: A named clinical lead is available for veteran\u2011related health concerns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"x_MsoNormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Armed Forces Outreach Services<\/h3>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">These run in ten locations around the county and each one is held monthly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">We offer an informal drop-in service where we can support with any number of issues as well as combatting social isolation and loneliness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">We have representatives from different charities, DWP, health etc available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Details are on the website <a href=\"https:\/\/nhssomerset.nhs.uk\/armed-forces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-id=\"484740\" data-use-default-display=\"true\" data-use-default-title=\"true\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"https:\/\/nhssomerset.nhs.uk\/armed-forces\/\">https:\/\/nhssomerset.nhs.uk\/armed-forces\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">We also do blood pressure monitoring, have a range of health promotion information available, audiology support etc.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Op Restore<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Op RESTORE, The Veterans Physical Health and Wellbeing Service is an NHS service that supports individuals who have served in, or are leaving, the UK armed forces and have continuing, physical health injuries and related medical problems attributed to their time in the armed forces. This may include recent history or ongoing issues with, ear infections, pain, discharge, imbalance, facial weakness or sudden deafness. Where self-referral is not applicable, referrals can be made via your GP.
