NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme

It’s Mens Health Week from 15th – 21st June 2026, and we’re raising awareness and promoting the NHS AAA Screening Programme.

This is a free scan at a local clinic for all men aged 65 and over, and looks for swelling in the aorta. If an AAA ruptures, it is likely to be fatal – it has no symptoms, so screening is the best way to catch one early. Lancashire and South Cumbria Screening Services invite men automatically during the year they turn 65, but anyone over this age who has not been screened can still book an appointment.

Many men are not aware that AAA screening exists, and that it is a health check that could save their life – Don’t ignore your invite!
