We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery.<\/p>\n

Our practice nurses and healthcare assistants share a wide range of expertise including child and adult vaccinations, travel advice and vaccination, smoking cessation, ear syringing, \u2018well woman\u2019 checks and cervical smears, \u2018well man\u2019 checks, NHS health checks, weight reduction, contraceptive advice including routine pill, HRT and coil checks.<\/p>\n

The nurses also play a key role in the care of those with diabetes, heart disease and respiratory problems such as asthma and COPD. A range of minor surgical procedures are carried out at the practice by doctors.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tAntenatal\/Postnatal Appointments<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
<\/p>\n

Antenatal and postnatal care (care during and after pregnancy) is provided by our very experienced midwife and team of doctors and nurses.<\/p>\n

Mums are invited for their postnatal visit to see a doctor about 6 to 8 weeks after the birth of their baby. In this consultation mums general health and future needs of contraception are discussed. Women have an opportunity to discuss any other health related issues should they so wish.<\/p>\n

6 weeks baby checks are also carried out during this postnatal visit. New born babies are also seen by the health visitor. You can also book an appointment for baby immunisation on the same day with a nurse.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tChildhood Immunisation<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
<\/p>\n

Protect your children by immunising them against diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, polio, whooping cough, meningitis, measles, mumps, rubella and meningitis B.<\/p>\n

Remember, your children not only need the initial course of immunisation in the early months of their lives but also need booster immunisation injections just before they start school (pre-school boosters) and when they are about to leave school (school leavers boosters).<\/p>\n

We provide routine childhood immunisation, pre-school and school leavers boosters. Please contact our friendly practice staff or\u00a0book an appointment with one of our nurses\u00a0to discuss your child\u2019s individual needs of immunisation.<\/p>\n

We adhere to routine childhood immunisation schedule for UK as published by Department of Health.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tChild Surveillance Checks<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t

Routine child surveillance health checks are carried out by doctors in conjunction with the health visitors.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tDiabetes Clinic<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
<\/p>\n

Diabetes is a disease which can affect different organs of body including eyes, heart, kidneys etc. Management includes not only the control of blood sugar but also good control of blood pressure and cholesterol. A holistic approach is required.<\/p>\n

In our weekly diabetes clinic which is run by our diabetes specialist nurse under supervision of Dr. Asad Zaman, we aim to provide high quality diabetes care to our patients. We also initiate insulin and other injectable diabetic therapies. Most of our patients are managed in the surgery. Only a small number of patients with diabetes with complex needs are managed at the hospital.<\/p>\n

We strive to provide the best possible care to our patients with diabetes.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tDrugs & Alcohol Service<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
<\/p>\n

Our practice provides help and support to people who have a problem with \u2018substance misuse\u2019. If you are affected by substance misuse and want help, please get in touch with the surgery and we will be happy to help.<\/p>\n

We provide opioid replacement therapy in suitable patients i.e. Methadone \/ Buprenorphine programme through a designated doctor and a drug worker who holds regular clinics in the surgery. Our drug worker provides support and help to overcome the problem of substance misuse.<\/p>\n

If you are affected by an addiction to any illicit substance, please get in touch with the surgery and we will be happy to help. We work with our community drug and alcohol team.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tECG or Blood Pressure Check<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t

Our nurses and healthcare assistants are trained to perform blood tests ECGs and blood pressure checks. You will need a recommendation by a doctor for a blood test or an ECG.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tContraception and Sexual Health Services<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
<\/p>\n

Contraception and sexual health services are available in practice. If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review please\u00a0complete our contraceptive pill review form.<\/p>\n

We provide \u2018sexual health and contraception service\u2019 which are confidential and include:<\/p>\n

  • General sexual health and contraceptive advice<\/li>\n
  • Contraceptive pills and injection<\/li>\n
  • Contraceptive implants insertion and removal<\/li>\n
  • Contraceptive coil insertion and removal<\/li>\n
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Confidentiality of patients is very important to us and we adhere to general medical council (GMC) guidelines on confidentiality.<\/p>\n

    \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tMinor Surgery<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
    <\/p>\n

    At Shah Zaman Surgery we provide following minor surgical procedures:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Removal of small skin lesions<\/li>\n
    • Removal of small cysts \/ lumps<\/li>\n
    • Joint aspiration and steroid injections<\/li>\n
    • Implant insertion and removal<\/li>\n
    • Coil insertion and removal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Not all the skin lesions, cysts or lumps are appropriate to be removed in primary care. Some might need a referral to hospital.<\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n\t\t<\/details>\n

      \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tSmoking Cessation<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
      <\/p>\n

      Smoking cessation clinics run by our healthcare assistant.<\/p>\n

      Our policy is to provide smoking cessation advice and support on any available opportunity. We have a structured smoking cessation programme which is run by our experienced health care assistant and smoking cessation advisor Chris Rickus who has helped numerous people to quit smoking.<\/p>\n

      If you wish to stop smoking and need help, please book an appointment with our smoking cessation advisor who will be happy to help you in your journey to stop smoking. Remember \u2018Where there is a Will, there is a Way\u2019.<\/p>\n

      If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a smoking review on a regular basis please\u00a0complete our smoking review form.<\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n\t\t<\/details>\n

      \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tSubstance Misuse<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
      <\/p>\n

      Our substance misuse clinic is run by our drug recovery worker, currently on a fortnightly basis.\u00a0Please contact the surgery\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n\t\t<\/details>\n

      \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tTravel Immunisation<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t
      <\/p>\n

      If you are travelling abroad for a holiday or for work, please complete our\u00a0travel risk assessment form. You might need travel vaccination or malaria prevention treatment.<\/p>\n

      Malaria prevention treatment<\/h3>\n

      If you are travelling to an area where malaria is common, you need to take malaria prevention treatment. It is important to see the practice nurse for malaria prevention measures. Remember, taking tablets for malaria prevention is only one measure to reduce the risk of malaria. You also need to protect yourself from mosquito bites!<\/p>\n

      Malaria tablets are not free on NHS, however obtaining a private prescription from your doctor \/ nurse is free from our surgery. Please note that the type of malaria prevention you will need to take will depend upon the country you are travelling to.<\/p>\n

      Yellow fever vaccination<\/h3>\n

      If you are travelling to a country where you need to have yellow fever vaccination and a certificate, you need to contact a yellow fever vaccination centre. We do not provide yellow fever vaccination or its certification.<\/p>\n

      If you need yellow fever vaccination please\u00a0contact our practice nurse\u00a0who will be able to provide you information about the nearest yellow fever vaccination centre.<\/p>\n
