It&#8217;s recommended during pregnancy and for adults aged 75 to 79.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-its-done\">What the RSV vaccine is for<\/h2>\n<p data-block-key=\"1j21x\"><a class=\"widget-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/vaccinations\/rsv-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The RSV vaccine helps protect against\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv\/\">respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"9m7fk\">RSV is a common cause of coughs and colds. Most people get it several times during their life.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"18rmi\">It usually gets better by itself, but in some people (especially babies and older adults) it can cause illnesses such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-block-key=\"a87d2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/pneumonia\/\">pneumonia<\/a>\u00a0(a lung infection)<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"8iouh\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/bronchiolitis\/\">bronchiolitis<\/a>\u00a0(a chest infection that affects babies)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-block-key=\"c99el\">These illnesses can cause serious breathing problems. They may need to be treated in hospital and can be life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"b66lv\">Getting RSV can also make your symptoms worse if you have a lung condition, such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease-copd\/\">chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"fv8ct\">The RSV vaccine helps reduce the risk of serious breathing problems like pneumonia and bronchiolitis.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"who-its-for\">Who should have the RSV vaccine<\/h2>\n<p data-block-key=\"24wnj\">The RSV vaccine is recommended if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-block-key=\"981rk\">you&#8217;re pregnant \u2013 the vaccine is recommended during every pregnancy (from 28 weeks onwards) to help protect your baby after they&#8217;re born<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"8isov\">you&#8217;re aged 75 to 79<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-block-key=\"e0mx9\">If you&#8217;re aged 80 or over<\/h3>\n<p data-block-key=\"6ubvu\">If you turned 80 on or after 1 September 2024, you&#8217;re eligible for the RSV.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"5g44u\">You&#8217;re not eligible for the RSV vaccine if you turned 80 before 1 September 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"5g44u\">For further information, please check our the NHS website by clicking <strong>HERE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"5g44u\"><strong>We will be inviting patients to have the vaccine either by phone or text message.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The RSV vaccine helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill.
