Patients must consent to sharing of the data held by a health provider out to other health providers and must also consent to which of the other providers can access their data.<\/p>\n<p>e.g. it may be necessary to share data held in GP practices with district nurses, but the local podiatry department would not need to see it to undertake their work. In this case, patients would allow the surgery to share their data, they would allow the district nurses to access it, but they would not allow access by the podiatry department. In this way access to patient data is under patients&#8217; control and can be shared on a &#8216;need to know&#8217; basis.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Emergency Care Summary<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a Central NHS Computer System called the\u00a0<strong>Emergency Care Summary (ECS)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Emergency Care Summary\u00a0is meant to help emergency doctors and nurses help you when you contact them when the surgery is closed.<\/li>\n<li>It will contain information on your medications and allergies.<\/li>\n<li>Your information will be extracted from practices such as ours and held securely on central NHS databases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advantage:<\/strong>\u00a0When you speak to an emergency doctor you might overlook something that is important. If they have access to your medical record it might avoid mistakes or problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may have strong views about sharing your personal information and wish to keep your information at the level of this practice. If you don\u2019t want an Emergency Care Summary to be made for you, please inform us.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget that even if you do have an Emergency Care Summary, every time your medical record needs accessing by NHS staff outside of your practice, you will be asked permission. You don\u2019t have to agree to this.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>National Data Opt Out<\/h2>\n<p>The national data opt-out was introduced on 25 May 2018, enabling\u00a0patients to opt out from the use of their data for research or planning purposes, in line with the recommendations of the National Data Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>Patients can view or change their national data opt-out choice at any time by using the online service at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/your-nhs-data-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-id=\"446385\" data-use-default-display=\"true\" data-use-default-title=\"true\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/your-nhs-data-matters\/\">https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/your-nhs-data-matters\/<\/a>\u00a0or by clicking on &#8220;Your Health&#8221; in the NHS App, and selecting &#8220;Choose if data from your health records is shared for research and planning&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/services\/national-data-opt-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-id=\"446386\" data-use-default-display=\"false\" data-use-default-title=\"false\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/services\/national-data-opt-out\">https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/services\/national-data-opt-out<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is SystmOnline?
