If you suffer from a long term health condition, you will benefit from regular check ups. Book a routine GP or nurse appointment, or respond to our invitation to book to monitor any of the following:

• heart disease
• chronic kidney disease
• diabetes
• high blood pressure (hypertension)
• atrial fibrillation
• transient ischaemic attack
• inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
• heart failure
• peripheral arterial disease
• stroke
• currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol
• previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years

The Practice Nurse gives childhood immunisations by appointment. It is very important to keep up with the vaccination schedule to prevent the development of serious and potentially life threatening childhood diseases. The GP can also be booked for a 6 week health check appointment

Travel Immunisations are given by the Practice Nurse by appointment. If you are intending on going abroad, we recommend booking two to three months in advance to ensure we have availability. Not all immunisations are available on the NHS, even if they are recommended for the country you are visiting.

Travel immunisations available on the NHS are polio (given as a combined diptheria/tetanus/polio jab), typhoid, hepatitis A, cholera.

Cervical screening (formerly known as the smear test) is offered to those with a cervix aged 25-64 and checks for certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that could develop into cancer, if left untreated.

Invitations are managed by the national NHS Cervical Screening Administration Service (CSAS) Eligible patients will receive a letter in the post inviting them to make an appointment with their GP practice

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you’re at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. If you are over 65 years of age, you’ll also be told about the syptoms of dementia.

You are eligible for an NHS Health Check if you are aged 40-74 and do not already have a pre-existing health condtion for you which you should already receive monitoring.
