They run clinics in order that asthma may be assessed, advice offered, queries answered and the correct treatment ensured.<\/p>\n<p>Patients on asthma medication should be seen at least once a year in the asthma clinic for a check up with a clinician.<\/p>\n<p>We like to see all our patients who have been diagnosed with COPD at least yearly.\u00a0 Depending on the severity of your diagnosis we may invite you to come to the clinic more often in order to ensure we give you the care you require.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to discuss coming to the COPD clinic please ask one of our nurses, who will help you access the care you need.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Cervical Smears<\/h3>\n<p>The practice nurses provide a cervical cancer screening service.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to look for and identify cancer warning cells. If these are found then treatment can be organised to prevent cervical cancer ever developing.<\/p>\n<p>The practice now offer Saturday appointments! Our specialist diabetes team will provide you with support, regular reviews and the day-to-day care of your needs.<\/p>\n<p>Please book an appointment with the practice nurse.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Hypertension Clinic<\/h3>\n<p>Hypertension relates to High Blood Pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact us to make an appointment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Minor Illness Clinic<\/h3>\n<p>If your visit for the first event of one of the following ailments, you can be treated by the Minor Illness Nurse<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sore throat<\/li>\n<li>Earache<\/li>\n<li>Colds &amp; \u2018Flu\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Sinusitis<\/li>\n<li>Cough<\/li>\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n<li>Hayfever<\/li>\n<li>Nosebleeds<\/li>\n<li>Headache<\/li>\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n<li>Emergency contraception<\/li>\n<li>Minor injuries<\/li>\n<li>Skin complaint\/rash<\/li>\n<li>Insect bites\/stings<\/li>\n<li>Indigestion<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhoea &amp; Vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Constipation<\/li>\n<li>Urinary tract infection<\/li>\n<li>Threadworms<\/li>\n<li>Headlice<\/li>\n<li>Vaginal discharge<\/li>\n<li>Sore eyes<\/li>\n<li>Acute asthma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The nurses are able to raise a prescription where applicable for these problems.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Mother and Baby<\/h3>\n<p>A drop-in clinic for advice and weight checking is available at the practice. Vaccinations for all children up to age 5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong>\u00a0Wednesday 2.30pm \u2013 4pm<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Sexual Health and Family Planning<\/h3>\n<p>We have two doctors who can fit coils and implants. These can be booked throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sexual health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A range of sexual health services are offered at the surgery including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contraception and contraception advice.<\/li>\n<li>Emergency contraception and emergency contraception advice.<\/li>\n<li>Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea and genital warts.<\/li>\n<li>Testing and counselling for HIV and AIDS.<\/li>\n<li>Fitting of coils and implants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you need advice and support with a sexual health matter or you think you have a problem you would like to discuss, please contact us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Family planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A wide range of services are provided by your doctor. In addition we have trained practice nurses to help you. Please contact us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chlamydia screening<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chlamydia screening is available from the surgery. Kits are available to pick up from the toilets. It is a completely confidential service where you can send a urine sample in the envelope provided and receive the results easily.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Smoking Cessation Advice<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re trying to give up smoking, we can help.<\/p>\n<p>Studies show that your chances of success will be greatly improved if you get advice and support from health care professionals to help you stop smoking.<\/p>\n<p>The services we offer from the practice can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boost your willpower to stop smoking.<\/li>\n<li>Concentrate your efforts by getting advice from someone who knows your medical background.<\/li>\n<li>Help you feel that you\u2019re not doing it alone.<\/li>\n<li>Help you to cope when you are tempted to smoke.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor improvements to your health so that you can see the benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Travel Health<\/h3>\n<p>If you are travelling abroad you may need to be vaccinated. Please make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss the vaccinations you will need, which will depend on where you are travelling.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to make this initial appointment at least eight weeks before you travel so that the vaccines can be ordered. You will need a second appointment to receive the vaccinations.\u00a0 Your second appointment should be at least two weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.<\/p>\n<p>Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription which cost more than the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel vaccinations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/travel-vaccinations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/travel-vaccinations\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span role=\"text\">Travel health checklist<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-body\/travel-health-checklist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-body\/travel-health-checklist\/<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Vaccinations<\/h3>\n<p>Routine and travel vaccinations for all ages are available during surgery times by appointment with our nurses.<\/p>\n<p>We run a flu jab clinic in late October.\u00a0Ask at reception for further information.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Other Services<\/h2>\n<h3>Vision testing<\/h3>\n<p>The doctors recommend that you see an Optician to assess the current state of your eyesight as they are better equipped to decide whether spectacles or other referral is necessary.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirbyroadsurgery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/766\/2021\/05\/eye-problem-contacts.pdf\">Read the Minor Eye Problems leaflet for more information and details of local opticians<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Hearing tests<\/h3>\n<p>Deafness can only be slight to make a difference; we can determine its extent after the doctor has checked that wax is not the cause.<\/p>\n<h3>Electrocardiography<\/h3>\n<p>An \u2018ECG\u2019 can be important in establishing a diagnosis. Also it may be included in a routine Heart Risk check if indicated on medical grounds. We have our own ECG machine and if your doctor feels it advisable they will arrange for you to have one.<\/p>\n<h3>Screening<\/h3>\n<p>National Breast Screening (age 50) and National Bowel Screening (age 60) will be sent automatically. These are undertaken externally but the results are sent to us.<\/p>\n<h3>RTA Medical<\/h3>\n<p>Should you need a medical examination shortly after a Road Traffic Accident then this will be carried out for a fee of \u00a321.50 (payable at the time of the examination by Cash or Cheque only), which the doctor is legally entitled to. This sum can be reclaimed from the insurance company of the driver.<\/p>\n<h3>Sexual health<\/h3>\n<p>Sexual Health services across Bedfordshire offer two main venues, Kings Brook Clinic in Bedford and\u00a0Priory Clinic in Dunstable ensuring easy access to sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and\u00a0contraception services. As well as the main hubs there are satellite clinics in other areas, such as\u00a0Biggleswade held at the Ivel Medical Centre. If you would like to make an appointment, please call\u00a0the integrated contraception and sexual health services (iCaSH) Tel: 03003003030.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, if would like a free STI test kit, and do not have any symptoms, you can order an\u00a0Express Test to be sent to your own home. The Express Test is free and easy to use and can be\u00a0ordered online at ww.icash.nhs.uk\/expresstest.<\/p>\n<p>You can have an STI and not have any symptoms. It is recommended that everyone gets tested once\u00a0a year and in between any partner change.
