{"id":502,"date":"2025-09-26T17:04:53","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T16:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/d81055\/?p=502"},"modified":"2026-07-06T17:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T16:05:10","slug":"respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-vaccination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/d81055\/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-vaccination\/","title":{"rendered":"Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From 1 September 2024, those who turn 75 and those age 75 to 79 will be eligible for a free vaccine to protect them from respiratory syncytial virus (<abbr data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"respiratory syncytial virus\">RSV<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p><abbr data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"respiratory syncytial virus\">RSV<\/abbr>\u00a0is an infectious disease of the airways and lungs.\u00a0<abbr data-toggle=\"tooltip\" data-placement=\"bottom\" data-bs-original-title=\"respiratory syncytial virus\">RSV<\/abbr>\u00a0infection often causes symptoms similar to a cold, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cough<\/li>\n<li>sore throat<\/li>\n<li>sneezing<\/li>\n<li>a runny or blocked nose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It can also make you become wheezy or short of breath and lead to pneumonia and other life-threatening conditions. There is no specific treatment, and most infections will get better by themselves.
