{"id":521,"date":"2026-07-07T16:54:47","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T15:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/d81055\/?page_id=521"},"modified":"2026-07-07T16:54:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T15:54:47","slug":"rights-and-responsibilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/d81055\/rights-and-responsibilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Rights and Responsibilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bottisham Medical Practice undertakes to meet standards of patient care as set out in the policy, and in return asks patients to contribute to ensuring that the healthcare they receive is of the highest quality and that Bottisham Medical Practice staff, other patients and members of the public on Bottisham Medical Practice premises are treated with respect.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<p>As a patient of Bottisham Medical Practice you have a right to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The right to see a doctor of the same gender whenever possible if requested.<\/li>\n<li>The right to a chaperone when an examination or procedure is required.<\/li>\n<li>To make decisions about your plan of care before and during treatment, when\u00a0medically\u00a0possible.<\/li>\n<li>To refuse a recommended treatment to the extent permitted by law, and to be informed of the\u00a0medical consequences of your refusal.<\/li>\n<li>Receive a second opinion concerning the proposed procedure, if requested<\/li>\n<li>To be able to make health care decisions in advance. If you provide us with a copy of your\u00a0advance directive, we will respect your wishes to the extent permitted by law and Bottisham\u00a0Medical Practice policy.<\/li>\n<li>Decline or withdraw from at any time, any research study you are asked to participate in related to\u00a0your illness. Your refusal to participate will not affect your medical care.<\/li>\n<li>Receive information related to the Data Protection Act (1998) and have records pertaining to\u00a0your medical care treated as confidential.<\/li>\n<li>Assistance from a patient representative (e.g. Patient Advice and Liaison Service or Independent Complaints Advocacy Service) in resolving complaints or grievances regarding\u00a0your treatment, and to request a review if your concern is not resolved to your satisfaction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>As a patient of Bottisham Medical Practice, you can expect:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Care which is provided in a safe setting, by competent and committed staff<\/li>\n<li>Considerate, respectful, and compassionate care regardless of your age, race, gender, religion,\u00a0national origin, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability.<\/li>\n<li>To be addressed by your proper name or by a name that is preferable to you<\/li>\n<li>To be told the names of the doctors, nurses, and other health team members directly involved in\u00a0your care.<\/li>\n<li>Coordination of sign language or foreign language interpretation services, if you need them.<\/li>\n<li>Information about your diagnosis, treatment, any expected results and the planned course of\u00a0treatment, including an explanation about procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Information on the risks, benefits, and alternatives of your treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Convenient and professional transfer to another facility when medically necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>As a patient, you and\/or your representative are expected to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide all necessary personal information including your full name, address, home telephone,\u00a0number and date of birth.<\/li>\n<li>Provide complete and accurate information about your health.<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions when you do not understand what your doctor or other member of your health\u00a0care team tell you about your diagnosis or treatment, and work with them on your care plan.<\/li>\n<li>Inform your doctor if you anticipate problems in following prescribed\u00a0treatment, or if you are\u00a0considering alternative therapies.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your doctor or nurse what to expect regarding treatment, and work with them to develop a\u00a0management plan where appropriate. You should tell your doctor or nurse about any worries you\u00a0have about planned treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Respect your doctors\u2019 right to have a chaperone present for examination or procedure if it is\u00a0considered appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Treat staff, other patients, and visitors with courtesy and respect.<\/li>\n<li>Abide by the facilities rules and regulations.<\/li>\n<li>Be on time for your appointments, and notify us as soon as possible if you cannot keep your\u00a0appointments.<\/li>\n<li>Be considerate of noise levels, privacy, and safety.
