Mental Capacity Assessments and Financial Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Paperwork
Our GP practice is unable to provide formal mental capacity assessments or complete paperwork relating to financial Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) applications.
This type of work:
- Is outside the scope of our NHS General Medical Services (GMS) contract
- Is not commissioned or funded by our Integrated Care Board (ICB) as part of core GP services
- Requires specific training and separate professional indemnity , which our GPs do not hold for this non-NHS work
Given the significant pressures on general practice, we must prioritise our core NHS clinical duties to patients.
For formal capacity assessments or completion of financial LPA documentation, you will need to seek an appropriately trained and indemnified professional, such as:
- A solicitor with experience in Court of Protection / LPA work
- A specialist clinician or independent practitioner who offers this service privately
We appreciate your understanding as we focus our limited resources on essential NHS care
