Measles is one of the most highly infectious diseases and spreads rapidly among people who are unvaccinated. It is an unpleasant illness and can sometimes cause very serious complications.<\/p>\n<p>We urge parents and carers to ensure children are fully protected against measles by having the <strong>MMR<\/strong> or <strong>MMRV<\/strong> vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Measles spreads very easily, particularly among children who have not had the MMR or MMRV vaccine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/measles\"><strong>Nine out of ten<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0unvaccinated children can catch measles from an infected classmate<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ukhsa.blog.gov.uk\/2014\/03\/12\/getting-back-on-track-to-eliminating-measles\/\"><strong>One in five<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0children who catch measles will require a hospital visit<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ukhsa.blog.gov.uk\/2014\/03\/12\/getting-back-on-track-to-eliminating-measles\/\"><strong>One in fifteen<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will experience serious complications, such as meningitis or sepsis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Children who are not fully vaccinated and who come into contact with measles may be <strong>excluded from school or nursery for up to 21 days<\/strong>\u00a0under public health guidance, meaning they could miss school if they are not protected<\/p>\n<p>Did you know?
