At Lindisfarne Health-Wooler, we are always looking for better ways to engage with the younger patients of the practice.\u00a0 We realise the difficulty young people can face if they have a problem and they are not sure who to talk to or are embarrassed to come into the surgery and ask for an appointment.\u00a0 We would be delighted if any young person wanted to help us with this, please contact the practice manager on 01668 280036.<\/p>\n
We already offer appointments to young people under 16 who are presumed to be competent to give consent for their own medical care unaccompanied, if they so wish. They will be encouraged to attend with a responsible adult but this will only be a requirement if their safety is thought to be at risk.\u00a0 \u00a0Alternatively, telephone appointments can be made at a suitable time to suit a young person who may be at school\/college during the day.<\/p>\n
Treatment will be kept completely confidential by everyone in the\u00a0practice unless the doctor has\u00a0reasonable grounds to suspect that the\u00a0young person\u00a0is suffering, or is likely to suffer,\u00a0significant harm.<\/p>\n
In emergency situations when a\u00a0\u00a0 parent\/guardian or other relative is unable to be contacted and the\u00a0young person\u00a0does not have the capacity to\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0consent for him or herself,\u00a0we will provide immediate necessary\u00a0treatment on the\u00a0\u00a0 basis that it is in the patient\u2019s best interests.<\/p>\n
Our late night clinics are held between 6.30pm and 8pm on a Thursday with a GP or practice nurse and are an ideal opportunity for young people who may prefer to come at a quieter time when there are very few people in the building.<\/p>\n
