NEAS provide non-urgent transport to hospital appointments for patients who\u00a0have no other means of getting to their appointment.<\/strong>\u00a0 They transport over 4,000 patients each day, to and from treatment centres across the North of England and parts of Scotland.<\/p>\n The transport crews are trained as ambulance care assistants\u00a0and have\u00a0specialist knowledge of comprehensive first aid and patient moving and handling techniques.<\/p>\n As well as these crews, they also have Ambulance Car Service Drivers(ACS),\u00a0 volunteers who use their own vehicles to help with the transportation of patients to and from hospitals and clinics.\u00a0\u00a0 These volunteers are available to transport patients who do not need\u00a0help getting in and out of a car thereby freeing up the\u00a0larger transport vehicles and their crews to assist the less abled.<\/p>\n If you require transport to your hospital appointment, please call the contact centre on 0191 2648870.\u00a0\u00a0 You will be asked a series of questions to find out if you are eligible for transport, ie have no other means of getting to the appointment.\u00a0 Please note, they cannot provide transport to and from GP or dental surgeries or transport companions unless the patient has a clinical need for a personal escort.<\/p>\n Our One-to-One community service is designed to build confidence and help reconnect you with the things that make life worth living, so you can stay independent for longer. A\u00a0change of scene always gives you a lift.<\/p>\n Our Community Transport service is John\u2019s Mondeo, Jo\u2019s Micra or Terry\u2019s Yaris, are there to whisk you door-to-door, whether it\u2019s to a health appointment, the shops or to see a friend. With a chat along the way, and a helping hand if you need it. Visiting family and friends, getting to a lunch club or social club, shopping, whether it\u2019s for weekly essentials or a treat to see a friend, join a class or socialise or with personal care, like hairdressers.<\/p>\n Is there a cost? Our drivers are volunteers, we do ask you to cover their fuel and running costs, with a small fee based on mileage.
