{"id":566,"date":"2026-02-06T16:19:44","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/a83011\/?page_id=566"},"modified":"2026-02-06T16:19:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:19:44","slug":"opensafely-data-sharing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/surgerywebtemp.org.uk\/a83011\/opensafely-data-sharing\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenSAFELY Data Sharing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"evsft\">NHS England has issued a <b>Data Provision Notice (DPN)<\/b> requiring GP practices to provide access to patient data through a secure system called <b>OpenSAFELY<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"8stmk\">OpenSAFELY is used to help researchers and health professionals understand diseases like Covid-19 and improve care.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-block-key=\"2huvs\">Data is <b>pseudonymised<\/b>, which means personal details (like your name and date of birth) are removed and replaced with a code.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"296db\">Approved users can run research queries on this data, but they <b>cannot see anything that directly identifies you<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-block-key=\"vxiyg\">Can I opt out?<\/h3>\n<p data-block-key=\"5pvia\">If you do not want your information used in this way, you can register a <b>Type 1 Opt-out<\/b> with our GP practice.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"324dl\">This is called a Type 1 Opt-out.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-block-key=\"bt1j8\">To do this you need to fill in an opt-out form and return it to your GP surgery. They will be able to tell you if, and when, you have been opted out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-block-key=\"anb4g\">If you choose a Type 1 Opt-out, your GP will not share your data for research and planning.
